6 things to do when crafting social media content for your brand2 min read

Social media has become one of the greatest tools businesses can use to scale their business and sell their products. Creating content to be posted on this medium must then be given good attention. Let’s consider 6 things you should do as you create content for your platforms.

  1. Plan
Have a schedule for your social media posts. Unless your social media manager (which might be you) is adept at constantly generating content, have a schedule of the type of content you wish to post at your selected times. The other side of having a plan: Plan an outline for your longer posts. Chart out an outline of your key points before you get to the writing. Outline what you know and what you need to research for it.
  2. Write like you talk
Conversational writing is key in social media content. This might not be for all of your posts, but it is needful. Break down technical jargon for your audience. Use paragraphs to space out longer posts and make your points clearer.
  3. Mind your tone
Your content expresses who you are, your brand image and personality. Never has this been truer than today when so much of our communication happens through writing, whether you’re texting, posting on Facebook, or writing a blog post.
Ever received an email that you felt was yelling at you? It was probably written in all CAPS with bold underlining and excessive use of exclamation marks. Sometimes, additions like this are useful, but not always. One way to achieve the right tone is by asking your co-workers how the post you are about to put out sounds to them. Their feedback will show you what needs to be revised and what works just fine.
  4. Use Imagery/Videos.
The place of pictures and videos in your social media sphere cannot be overemphasized. They attract attention that your text may not have been able to garner. Videos, especially on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter, show a higher probability of gaining traction outside your immediate followers, hence increasing your number of leads.
  5. Answer questions
If you can put yourself in the position of the reader, perhaps you will find that what you’re writing poses certain questions. Explaining and describing the necessary information will engage your reader. However, take care to not extend beyond the concise and relevant details.
  6. Practice
The more you put out social media content, the more you learn what works and what does not. Practice creating brief content and also creating lengthy content.
